INGREDIENT

Each 5 mL of PEPSAMAX® Suspension contains 500 mg of Sucralfate.

INDICATION

Short-term (up to 8 weeks) treatment of duodenal ulcers.

DOSAGE 

Adult :

2 measuring spoons (10 mL), 4x daily, empty stomach (1 hour before meals and at bedtime).

Treatment should be continued, unless an endoscope or X-ray has shown improvement.

SIDE EFFECTS

Side effects are very rare, relatively only constipation and dry mouth are reported.

Other complaints are diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, flatulence, pruritus, skin redness, drowsiness, vertigo, back pain and headaches.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Patients who are hypersensitive to Sucralfate and other components in this preparation.

WARNING AND ATTENTION

Sucralfate should be administered with caution to patients with renal failure and dialysis patients. Use of Sucralfate during pregnancy is only done when absolutely necessary. Sucralfate should be given with caution to women who are breastfeeding. If needed, antacids can be given 1/2 hour before or after Sucralfate administration. Safety and effectiveness in children have not been established.
